Congratulations to Jing Wu for receiving the 2022 CALL Award for Excellence in Teaching!

Jing Wu is an instructor of Chinese and a Ph.D. student at the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures in the College of Arts, Languages & Letters. She has been teaching UH Chinese courses, from novice to advanced levels, from in-person to synchronous online instruction, for over 10 years. Before the pandemic, she also worked as a Faculty Resident Director for UHM Semester and Summer in Shanghai Study Abroad programs and a Faculty/Instructor Evaluator for UHM Center for Teaching Excellence. Her research interests constitute sociolinguists, second language assessment and evaluation, and intercultural development in study abroad settings.

As a veteran teacher, she serves as a “bridge” to connect students’ interests, provide them with tools for learning, encourage them to find great joy in their own discoveries, and facilitate their crossing toward a brighter future and tremendous success. As a student commended, “Wu Laoshi [teacher] is a gem. Without her gusto and effort, the course would not be the same. Her example as a hard worker made me want to work just as hard and make an effort to do better!”

Congratulations once again to Professor Wu for the CALL award and for paving the way for the future generation of students!
