Congratulations to Marques Batoon and Koy Yoshizumi, who have been selected as recipients of the 2024 Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Japanese Studies Student Scholarship. The MEXT is a prestigious scholarship offered by the Japanese government.
This year, a total of four students from the United States were selected by the Japanese embassy and consulates to receive this prestigious scholarship. Marques and Koy are two of the four representing the US. It is a great achievement and honor for the students and for the UHM Japanese program.
An Award Presentation Ceremony was held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Official Residence of the Consulate-General of Japan in Honolulu. The photo above was taken at the ceremony, from right to left: Marques Batoon, Deputy Consul General Izawa, and Koy Yoshizmi.
Marques Batoon (double majoring in Japanese and Information and Computer Sciences) will study at Doshisha University in Kyoto from October 2024 through August 2025.
Koy Yoshizumi (majoring in Japanese) will study at Keio University in Tokyo from October 2024 through July 2025.
